For many musicians, Universal Audio is synonymous with high-quality music hardware and software. Today, their website announced that anyone can obtain a license for their proprietary Teletronix LA-2A compressor software emulation. Two years ago, it was available on their website for a limited time. If you did not register your license then, you can do so now, but you must do so before September 1.
The LA-2A is an optical tube compressor, which largely determines its sound character. The compressor adds tube warmth, richness, and pleasant soft harmonic distortion to any sound that passes through it. Yes, and in general, it makes the sound denser. If you want to get not a clean and transparent compressor sound, but a “colored” one with the properties described above, then the Teletronix LA-2A is what you need.
As for me, I often use the LA-2A in processing chains for bass, electric guitar, and Rhodes. But my absolute favorite use for the Teletronix LA-2A is as a vocal compressor. That’s where its unique characteristics really shine!
Especially for you, I recorded several tracks with instruments and made them the same volume so that the difference in volume would not mislead you. You can listen and compare the sound with the Universal Audio compressor turned off and on. I definitely recommend this emulation for the collection of any sound engineer or vocalist!
